- Assistant Professor of Law (Knoxville, Tennessee)
Description
Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law in Knoxville, TN, seeks entry-level and lateral candidates for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions starting in July 2026. We welcome applications from all subject areas and have a particular need for expertise in criminal law and procedure, evidence, and family law. As we expand our predominantly online part-time hybrid program, we also seek candidates across all doctrinal areas who would enjoy the challenges of online teaching.
LMU Law aims to provide a legal education to students from underserved regions. With a focus on practice-oriented training, our goal is to produce graduates who will pass the bar exam and serve their communities as lawyers and leaders, particularly in Appalachia and in other underserved areas.
LMU Law faculty members are committed to supporting students in their academic, professional, and personal development. We work collaboratively to provide innovative legal education, incorporating best practices in skill-based and experiential learning. We seek candidates who share this ethos and are excited to contribute.
Candidates must have a J.D. or equivalent, strong academic credentials, and a commitment to legal education. We value diverse experiences, including teaching, scholarship, legal practice, clerkships, and post-law-school work. This can be evidenced by involvement in student-focused activities, mentoring, educational presentations, writing for legal publications, or leadership in professional or community organizations.
This position offers a twelve-month contract with teaching responsibilities in alternate summers. Our tenure and promotion policies consider this when determining scholarship requirements.
We actively seek applications from individuals who identify as members of groups who are underrepresented in the legal profession and the academy. We value candidates who can enrich our community, program, and mission through their varied life experiences, perspectives, and philosophies.
Our law school is located in downtown Knoxville, offering vibrant city life, a rich cultural scene, and stunning natural beauty with the Great Smoky Mountains as a backdrop. Knoxville has been recognized as one of the top 25 places to live in the United States. Our law school campus design facilitates faculty involvement in law school life.
Applications may be submitted here. Inquiries should be directed to Vonda Laughlin, Chair of the Faculty Appointments Committee. Applications must include a cover letter detailing your interest in LMU Law, a CV, and a list of three professional references. Candidates are welcome, but not required, to provide a statement of teaching philosophy or research agenda.
